The city of Maple Grove provides many volunteer opportunities for those looking to lend a helping hand in the community. As April is National Volunteer Month, one point of focus locally is Maple Grove’s senior center. The center provides a way for seniors to experience new adventures, meet new people and keep active through classes, workshops, trips and other events, such as knitting hats for newborns at Maple Grove Hospital. “We have social programs like card games and scrabble, groups like quilting and woodcarving, classes that teach very basic skills to advanced Photoshop elements and everything in between,” says Kris Orluck, senior coordinator at Maple Grove.
This month, Byerly’s will co-sponsor their annual pie social to celebrate volunteers who gift their time and skill to hundreds of events at the center throughout the year. If you’re interested in learning about the senior program, or volunteering, call Kris at 763.494.6514.
