After getting her hair done at Reflect Salon for years, brushpen artist Laura Stanke asked her stylist about the artwork that’s always up on the walls. She showed her stylist her artwork, after learning that they have a program to feature local artists, and was told to apply. Little did she know that applying would lead her to be chosen as a future featured artist.

“I feel lucky being selected,” Stanke says. “This is kind of a new adventure for me, but I think it will be fun.”

Through Reflect Salon’s program, Stanke’s art will be on display for a total of nine months. From Oct. 1-Dec. 31, 2019, her artwork be available for purchase at the Maple Grove location. Guests can buy her art off the wall or buy prints of her artwork up at the front of the salon. Then her artwork will be at the Ridgedale and Plymouth locations from Jan. 1-May 31, 2020, for a total of three months at each location.

But this program is more than just about the art. It is a way to raise money for Hello Gorgeous!, a non-profit organization where people can nominate a loved one who is battling cancer to receive a free, professional makeover.

Twenty percent of Stanke’s proceeds from selling her art at Reflect Salon are donated to Hello Gorgeous!

Stanke describes her art as a bold line art style. Using a Staedtler Mars Graphic 3000 felt-tipped brushpen, she captures subjects simply with black lines. “I like the lines to be really interesting,” Stanke says. As for her subjects, something will resonate in Stanke’s daily life and she’ll feel inclined to draw it.

“I wouldn’t consider myself a cartoonist, but I like to find humor in things,” Stanke says. “I just want to make art that makes people happy.”

Once the program is done, Stanke might start selling her work through her Instagram account @ohmydoodle. She says people can always contact her through Instagram.
