Whether you have Scandinavian roots or not, you’re invited to the adventure of this oft joked-about entree. You may surprise yourself and actually like it! Dinner coordinator Karen Coddington remembers the first lutefisk dinner she attended, "It made me want to visit Norway! This is part of my heritage."
Advent Lutheran Church spares no expense in getting this fabulous meal right. You will feel like you’ve walked into a fine dining establishment with low lights and colorful décor. It typically takes 2 weeks of preparation to make this magic happen. Specialized teams are assigned to the preparation of each entrée. The menu includes only authentic, handmade dishes including Swedish meatballs (for those who don’t care for fish), potatoes (more than 200 pounds) and rutabagas, with no lack of lefse, krumkake, julekage (Christmas bread with nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, fruits and raisins), krem, rumagrit and, of course, lutefisk—about 250 pounds of it.
Coddington says that lutefisk is tricky: “It has to be perfectly timed or it doesn’t turn out.” These Lutherans know just how to prepare this delicacy, yah, you betcha!
