Anthony Nunn’s “million-dollar smile” was undervalued upon news he was playing in the NBA All-Star weekend festivities.
The power forward from Osseo/Maple Grove was “running around,” “calling friends” and “smiling constantly” about being one of 12 Special Olympians nationwide picked to play in the unity sports game with traditional athletes and coached by NBA greats in Orlando, Fla., in February.
Nunn, 22, was selected for his charisma, athleticism, kindness and the intangible of that expensive smile. “Anthony has a real solid personality and he’s the kind of person that helps out and chips in,” says his coach, Mitch Ringe. “But is also intensively competitive and loves to play.”
Nunn, who suffered a massive brain injury as a toddler, was honored at a Timberwolves game and met Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams. In Florida, Nunn, a social butterfly, also met other NBA greats Chris Mullin and Scottie Pippen.
“They are memories I will cherish for the rest of my life,” Nunn says.
