Dunkirk Development Spurs Retail Activity For New and Established Stores.
The last phase of Dunkirk Square is now complete.

Hallmark has been next to Rainbow Foods since 2002, and store manager Tom Molitor has been there through the good and bad times. “Target leaving really hurt us. We are making our way back with the new stores opening up, especially Big Lots.”

The last phase of the Dunkirk Square shopping center, at Dunkirk and Hwy. 30, is complete. Rainbow Foods and Hallmark have welcomed their new neighbors and business is thriving. Metro Self Storage, Valvoline Instant Oil Change, Verizon, LeAnn Chin, Anytime Fitness along with other retailers listed below have brought life back to a once dead slab of concrete.

Freeziac is a self-serve, pay by weight yogurt restaurant, offering a variety of ten flavors, and over 40 toppings. “Our yogurt is fat-free, wheat-free, and gluten-free. Most of our toppings, and all of our yogurts are kosher as well,” “It’s nice to have a healthier option with all the junk food places nearby,” says Megan Waskosky, general manager. “We are a family friendly place to hang out.” They offer a wide selection of board games for patrons to play, as well as free Wi-Fi.

Both LeeAnn Chin and Verizon looked to open stores on this end of Maple Grove for several years, so they jumped at the opportunity and signed on to the new development before ground was ever broken.

The Dunkirk White Castle restaurant is the first and only White Castle in the state to feature the new modern themed design including an open ceiling, large flat screen TVs, and bright white walls with accent orange and blue furniture. This location also offers a take and bake lasagna, as well as new dessert options like cheesecake on a stick, fudge dipped brownies, and mini donuts. Don’t worry, they still have all of their famous sliders.

Big Lots carries just about everything except for perishable food. “ What you see one week, you may not see the next,” according to Arlene Doty, Assistant General Manager. “Our merchandise is constantly changing, so customers enjoy coming to see what’s new.”

Becker Furniture World has been opening more satellite stores, so that customers do not have to travel all the way to Becker, MN to get great furniture. The Maple Grove store is their largest satellite store offering a design center with design specialist who will make in-home visits to help shoppers pick the right pieces, colors, and textures for their space.

Starbucks was the last store to finally open their doors in Dunkirk Store, opening last September. “The response has been great. People are glad to see us on this side of the freeway. We’re happy to be here and eager to get involved in the community,” Starbucks manager Bryce Novak says.

“It’s really nice to see this corner growing in spite of the economy,” Scott Oolman, Manager of Discount Tire. “And we are glad to be here for our customers.” Before the Dunkirk Square location opened last year, the nearest Discount Tire location was in Plymouth or Brooklyn Park.
