Maple Grove’s Beacon Academy Presents First-ever Musical

Saturday morning TV favorites come alive onstage at Beacon Academy.
Graham Biggar sings about the function of conjunctions in grammar and in an upcoming musical.

Admit it: You know the preamble of the United States Constitution solely because of a Saturday-morning cartoon series that set the words of this high-minded document to a clever song. Just like the ABCs, it’s hard to recite the preamble without dropping into the cadence of the well-known ditty from School House Rock.

The Emmy Award-winning 1970s animations taught history, grammar, math, science and civics. and now Beacon Academy is learning a bit, too, while staging the musical version. You’ll hear all the old familiar songs like “Three is a Magic Number” and “Conjunction Junction” in a charming new live interpretation as more than 50 students at Beacon Academy perform this brightly colored, toe-tapping, fun-filled, hum-along production.
