Steve Laux, 35, of Maple Grove lives as a quadriplegic with a C5, C6 level spinal cord injury from a 1998 diving accident that occurred at Lake Superior. Despite his limitations in using a wheelchair, this dad of three has made a big impact on the community.
Last summer, Laux won the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s 2012 Best Dad on Wheels award thanks to almost 4,500 votes. “I couldn’t be happier to have been a part of this contest,” says Laux.
When Laux is not at home with wife, Chau, almost 4-year-old Mackenzie, and 16-month-old twin daughters Devon and Dakota, he is hard at work as a Market Development Consultant for Medtronic Inc. An all-around good guy, Laux also sits on the board of several local nonprofits such as the Minnesota Spinal Cord Injury Association, and he volunteers at the Courage Center.
“I’m grateful to be able to share our family in hopes they bring a smile to your face and awareness that our diversity, or disability, can indeed make us stronger,” he says.
