Sisters, Ashlynn and Bailey Smith were on the deck above the beach overlooking Weaver Lake Park when Tracey Kolbrek recognized a precious moment.
“I love the beauty found in children. My favorite photographs are not posed—the ones when kids are being kids. I like to fill the frame with their sweet, interesting faces,” says Kolbrek.
Using a Nikon D7000, Kolbrek captured the second place photograph in the “people” category of this year’s Focus on Maple Grove photo contest.
Kolbrek might have captured any number of people enjoying the park on that particular day. During these “dog days” of summer you’ll find people of all ages at the beach (which remains open with a lifeguard on duty through the middle of August), throwing balls, walking dogs, grilling burgers and sharing picnic tables—claiming the last few weeks before the start of school.
Parents anticipate the coming order and kids sense the impending loss of endless days of freedom to run, squeal, climb and play.
Twins, Ashlynn and Bailey are off to fourth grade this fall. Perhaps they are sharing a clandestine plot to trade classes and see if anyone notices. Teachers be warned!
