Jim and Donna Hawley have owned Maple Grove Pearle Vision for a little over a year, and apparently that’s all their locally-owned franchise needed to climb to the top of the national charts.

Maple Grove Pearle Vision was ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to the company’s 2011 sales volume figures released January 24.

“Being that this is our first year owning the business, we had a lot to learn and this is a huge accomplishment for our team,” says Donna Howley.

Hawley credits the team’s leadership on down the chain. Brooke Edwards, the store’s general manager, also happens to be the daughter of Jim and Donna.

“[Brooke] is a great motivator and has assembled a top performing team of managers, doctors, lab personnel, receptionists, and opticians,” says Hawley, who notes the team’s spirit was demonstrated in December when the store’s sales doubled in the last week of the year compared to the previous year. “Everyone is committed to valuing the patient-customer and to making their experience in our store positive.”

The Hawleys, who are Maple Grove residents, take great pride in being active in the local community. They belong to the Rotary Club of Maple Grove, North Hennepin Area Chamber of Commerce, and are involved in Helping Paws Animal Shelter and CROSS Food Shelf. They’ll even be participating in the Maple Grove Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics on Feb. 4 at Weaver Lake. They also donate their services to the area assisted living communities and collect glasses for Onesight. Maple Grove’s Pearle Vision has also sponsored local sports teams and Zambonis at both the Maple Grove and Rogers ice arenas because 50 percent of the profit goes right back to the community, according to Donna.

“If there is no community,” Donna says, “then there is no business.
