Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just someone looking to enjoy a good minnow race, you’ll have fun at this year’s Fish Fair. The annual festival was founded more than 10 years ago by Fishers of Men, a faith-based fishing club, and held at the Maple Grove Community Center. The event was eventually taken over by Fishing for Life and quickly outgrew its home in the community center. It was held at New Hope Church for several years and this year marks its second at the Anoka County Fairgrounds.
“The event offers a mix of fun, family, faith and fishing,” says event co-organizer Brenda Fromm, who collaborates with Fishing for Life executive director Tom Goodrich. “It’s a fun opportunity for kids to learn a little about fishing just in time for the fishing opener the following weekend, and for families to spend some quality time together.”
The event still garners a loyal following of families from the area. Current and longtime sponsors include Edina Realty and LifeWay Christian Store (formerly Northwestern Bookstore), who provide story hour and author book signings. Fish Fair brought in about $5,000 for Fishing for Life last year, which helped the group offer programming throughout the year.
