Angel of Hope: A Walk to Remember in Maple Grove

Community members gather to pay tribute to those they have lost.

On May 5, Friends of the Angel members and others from the Maple Grove community will walk as a tribute to the loved ones they have lost. Last year’s inaugural Walk to Remember event—hosted by the Friends of the Angel—commemorated the 10th anniversary of the angel statue located in the Maple Grove Arboretum.

For community members, the angel represents a place where they can remember and celebrate the lives of those they have lost. Maple Grove resident Sue Drag created the Friends of the Angel group in 2006, with the goal of helping others in the community who are going through the loss of a loved one.

Maple Grove resident and Friends of the Angel member Sarah Kerbeshian will be walking in honor of her son, Luke, who died of Sudden Infant Death Sydrome (SIDS) in 1997.

“I don’t have time with him now,” she says, “but I honor him by doing these things with the angel.”

The walk will start at the Maple Grove Arboretum and walk around Rice Lake. People can also purchase memorial markers that will placed along the route in honor of their loved ones.
