New Sports Dome Opens in Maple Grove

Maple Grove’s new indoor sports facility opens its doors this fall.

Maple Grove kicks off November with a bubble of excitement – a new $4.5 million sports dome.  Built behind Maple Grove Senior High, the new dome covers a multisport field for six cold months of the year. From batting cages and an indoor walking/running path to an attached waiting area, this state-of-the-art dome brings together the best features of other domes in Minnesota.

“When the dome is up, all three of our high schools have dedicated after-school access to the facility on a rotating basis, and we are providing transportation support for Osseo and Park Center to help ensure ease of access, says Heather Miller-Cink, assistant principal at Park Center Senior High. “Elementary and junior high schools across the district will have daytime access to it through our regular facilities reservation process.”

The majority of the project is funded by The City of Maple Grove, and 20 percent is funded by the MapleBrook Soccer Association and Osseo/Maple Grove Athletic Association. “The whole movement originated from the MapleBrook Soccer Association and Osseo/Maple Grove Athletic Association,” says Mark Saari, Maple Grove’s superintendent of recreation. “For years Maple Grove youth wanted to be involved with offseason training, but if they wanted to do anything, they had to leave Maple Grove. [The dome] keeps Maple Grove kids home – it’s built for Maple Grove athletes and families.” –Carlie Hanson
