Drink: The Reds Have It

Crisp red wines for fall.

“My favorite wine is what’s open,” says vice president of Haskell’s John F. Farrell, III. Although Farrell isn’t picky on wine choices, he does have some recommendations for your table this fall.

Vina Robles Cabernet Sauvignon, $17.99
Made with all estate-grown fruit from Paso Robles, “It’s my go-to cabernet, silky, rich,” Farrell says. Although this wine is delicate enough to serve on its own, it is perfect to pair with root vegetables and heartier meats like steak.

Chateau d’Aigueville Cotes-du-Rhone Villages, $9.98

A blend of syrah and grenache from the Rhone region of France. “As it starts to get cold, we like to drink more hearty wines. It’s a little bit more robust of a wine as the temps calm down but it’s also a great food favorite and a drinking wine,” Farrell says.

Torchbearer Zinfandel, $14.99
Loads of flavor, a little bit of spice and a clean finish leaves you satisfied—without the heavy aftertaste.
This flavorful wine goes great with squash and root vegetables or a grilled chicken breast. “If the wine has a lot of character, you want to back off on the food,” Farrell says.
