The days are getting shorter and with holiday season approaching and so many errands to run, sandwiches are a quick meal perfect for any lunch or dinner. Plus, with plenty of toasted options, you’re bound to stay warm. Sandwiches are also easy to find at most restaurants or bakeries in town as a grab-and-go snack or a sit-down meal to enjoy. Here are some great options:

Chicken Spinach Artichoke Panini ($8.95)
Daily Dose Cafe & Espresso

This popular menu item is hard to resist with deli chicken, mozzarella cheese, red onion and fresh spinach smothered with spinach artichoke parmesan spread. It’s pressed in Daily Dose’s panini grill on multigrain bread and is one of eight hot paninis on the menu. “That’s one of our most popular sandwiches, so the customers really seem to like it,” says co-owner Curt Medina. A half-sandwich option is available; add a cup of the cafe’s chicken and wild rice soup to the meal. The sandwich is served with chips and a pickle, but broccoli salad is available as a healthier side option for an extra $1.50.

Mediterranean ($5.50)

This sandwich will send your taste buds on a trip across the Atlantic Ocean with grilled chicken, roasted red pepper, cucumber and artichokes on fresh white or wheat bread. A zippy hummus is spread across the sandwich while hot pepper oils give even more flavor to the Mediterranean classic.

“[Customers] generally really love the sandwich; they loved it so much we came out with a salad with the same toppings,” says catering coordinator Molly Hanley. The sandwich comes in original size or can be upgraded to their big loaf. There’s also a vegetarian option. Add kettle chips, baked desserts or homemade malts and shakes as a special treat to this meal.

Broadway’s Original Sausage Hoagie ($11.49)

Aside from Broadway Pizza’s famous original thin-crust pizzas, their sausage hoagie is a customer favorite. The same sausage used on their pizzas is made into a patty for this sandwich, which is then grilled on the open broiler. pepper jack cheese, roasted pepper and onion mix, and Broadway sauce is added onto a white or wheat hoagie bun, with a garlic spread full of flavor, then run through the oven. “It’s a very filling sandwich,” says manager Mike Scrauth. “They like it.” The hoagie is served with banana peppers and a side of either tater tots, fries, onion rings, sweet potato fries, soup or a side salad.

Croque Madame ($11)
Patrick’s Bakery & Cafe

A French classic is a favorite in Maple Grove. This dish consists of boiled ham, melted cheese and creamy butter between pain de mie, which is French for soft white bread. On top, a fried egg adds an extra punch of flavor to this original dish, which is served hot. “The first time it was made was in Paris in 1910. It’s a very old, old, old sandwich we have in my country,” explains owner Patrick Bernet. The dish is traditionally a quick snack served at French cafes, but at Patrick’s, it is served as a meal with a mixed salad.

Short Rib & Cheesy Mac Stack ($12.99)

What’s better than hand-held comfort food? This unique sandwich combines short rib smothered in barbeque sauce with creamy mac and cheese. Finished off with two slices of sourdough bread, a buttery spread and bourbon-glazed onions, this sandwich is perfect for cold fall nights without spending hours in the kitchen. It’s served with crispy tater tots (with the option of sweet potato fries or beer-battered onion rings for an additional fee). After fueling up, head to the arcade with friends to compete in games such as Pac-Man, Skee-Ball or Million Dollar Midway.

Choose between pepper jack, American, Swiss, provolone or cheddar cheese to combine with Great Harvest’s original garlic butter spread to make this tasty version of a classic. Your favorite bread is up for grabs to press in the panini grill. Along with the hand-sliced cheese, there is an option to add fresh, hand-sliced ham, crisp bacon or a sliced tomato. To add another choice to your plate, ask for a half sandwich for $3 less and add a sweet treat from their assortment of options, such as muffins, scones or cookies, all freshly made. Add chips or an apple and a drink for just $1 more. 

Turkey Bacon Avocado ($12)

Tucked between slices of thick-sliced bakery sourdough bread is roast turkey, crispy bacon, sliced tomatoes, fresh avocado and cheddar cheese, completing this chef-recommended dish at Maple Tavern. The sandwich is served with kettle chips and a pickle spear or french fries, onion rings or sweet potato fries for an additional charge. Monday–Friday between 11 a.m.–3 p.m., this sandwich is included on the lunch special menu. Order a half sandwich and add your choice of beer cheese soup, chicken wild rice soup, or the soup of the day or a fresh cobb, wedge, house or Caesar salad. Bring your kids along as they eat free everyday with an adult purchase.  

The Cheesy Chicken ($8.99)
JC’s Bar and Grill

This sandwich has not one, but two layers of cheese. Atop a grilled chicken breast, Swiss and cheddar cheese are melted before being topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and Sriracha mayo. The meal is completed with your choice of a side. Asparagus is offered for an additional cost. Add delicious seasoned sour cream or white queso cheese dip. Saturday nights at JC’s turns dinner into a jam-packed experience with bingo starting at 5 p.m. and karaoke or a DJ and dance party from 10 p.m. to close.

Henry’s Café, a local family restaurant, offers a classic sandwich stacked high on homemade bread baked every day. The sandwich comes with three layers of meat—turkey, ham and bacon—for anyone not willing to decide on just one. Lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise are added and stacked between three delicious slices of wheat or white homemade bread toasted to perfection. This lunch treat is a customer favorite. For an even more filling meal, fries, potato salad or coleslaw can be added for $2 more.
