What does the top of this year’s Maple Grove Senior High graduating class plan on doing for the summer? Well, before Renee Edelman attends Ivy League Brown University and competes in gymnastics for them, she’ll “relax” with 20 hours a week in physical training.Edelman has struggled through many injuries and other challenges to get where she is today, which informs her intention to be a pediatric surgeon and someday do missionary work in Latin America helping children with deformities and disabilities. This summer’s training will be in a gymnasium without air conditioning—and the remainder of her time will be spent shadowing an emergency room doctor.
