High-school-aged kids from Shriners Hospital for Children and Maple Grove Link Crew danced the night away at the Shriners prom in April. Maple Grove Senior High students joined more than 100 patients from all over the upper Midwest for the grand march before spending the night on the dance floor. Outpatients at Shriners had the opportunity to pick out a dress or suit and have their makeup, hair and nails done—all free of charge—for the event.
“The kids’ maturity and the empathy that the Maple Grove Link Crew provided to these kids—they don’t make them feel different,” says Maureen Johnston from Shriners Hospital for Children. “They just grab them out on the dance floor like you would grab anyone; they don’t notice that someone is wearing braces.”
