Just two years after Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy opened its doors, enrollment has nearly doubled and they’ve expanded into a new location inside Church of the Open Door in Maple Grove. The K–5 school focuses on personalized learning for each student and collaboration among teachers throughout all grade levels.
“We meet the students where they are at, and then provide education or resources so they can move forward,” says executive director Mariela Spejh.
Teachers create lesson plans for each student based on whether they perform better one-on-one or in small groups. Students are also able to move classrooms if they differ in understanding a subject than others at their grade level.
