On Main Street in between Dunn Bros. and the Thai restaurant, Sawatdee, there stands a unique new salon that specializes in something most places don’t— waxing. As you walk in to the trendy shop, you realize the absence of elevator music typically found in these types of salons. Instead, the only thing that registers is the fun yet relaxing tunes that are playing and the refreshments that are being served…an experience that all around sets you at ease and makes you feel like you’re truly being pampered.
This was exactly the intention of nationally well-known designer, Shea Designs, who created the look of the studio, and has been instrumental in capturing the modern boutique feel of the space. The goal of Waxing the City is to provide quality, excellent service, and a work culture that stands out. Eyebrow stylists go through extensive training to become Cerologists (meaning a person who specializes in the art of waxing), and have specially formulated wax, trademarked solely for Waxing the City. Their no tipping policy is also unique, and definitely a draw for some clients.
Vera Jones, the owner of the Maple Grove branch of Waxing the City, started by working at a premier salon in the cities. At first she was hesitant about starting this new chapter in her life, but 2 ½ years after being approached with the offer, she knows that she made the right decision. They officially opened up on February 6th, 2014.
“I never consider this ‘work’” she says, “It's a time for me and others who share the passion of creating beauty to laugh, listen, be ourselves, and work hard to pursue excellence in our customer service.”
