We all know it’s important to pay attention to our health. Sometimes watching what you eat or going to the gym after work is easier said than done. But Maple Grove business owner Stacy Hainlin has just the solution for you.
At 47 years old, Hainlin wanted to split from the sales career she’d known for the past 20-plus years. And with physical fitness as one of her lifelong passions, she couldn’t think of a better career to pursue.
So, that’s exactly what she did. In March of 2010, Hainlin bought the Fitness Together studio at 11250 86th Ave. N. in Maple Grove, which had been there for about five years prior.
“Exercise and nutrition have made a difference in my life all these years,” she says. “I’ve seen lots of people struggling with ailments that can be prevented.”
In fact, about 70 percent of all ailments are preventable, according to Hainlin. If people paid more attention to exercise and nutrition, they wouldn’t see all the cancer, heart disease and diabetes, she adds.
So, what’s so special about Fitness Together? Well, you’ll experience it yourself from the minute you walk through the door. “People feel immediately at home when they walk in,” Hainlin explains. Clients get their own towel and water bottle, and of course, are greeted by name.
And you can say goodbye to waiting in line for a turn on the treadmill. Fitness Together is much more than your average gym, boasting three well-equipped exercise suites where clients work out one-on-one with a trainer. In addition to Hainlin, who has her personal training license, there are three other staff trainers who also have degrees in physical sciences. Two of their trainers are also certified in Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), and can be especially helpful to those with existing injuries or back pain.
Because the facility is so small, clients will feel Hainlin’s focus on the client-trainer relationship from the very beginning at their initial consultation, before they even become an official client. Hainlin talks to people about everything from their current health and stress load to family history and nutrition habits. Additionally, each person will do a mini-workout to assess their current fitness level, which then determines the focus of their new fitness program. “What’s different is that we have a plan,” Hainlin says, adding that each program is personalized to the client’s needs.
Take Carol and Dave Wehrman, for example. They were approaching their 60th birthdays, looking for accountability and to gain more knowledge about exercise regimens. Since they started at Fitness Together, the Wehrmans have noticed sizeable results. “Both Dave and I are noticeably stronger, have much better balance and improved sleep,” Carol says.
The Wehrmans especially like addressing their personal goals with the Fitness Together team each week, making exercise more worthwhile and what Carol calls, well, “just plain good for the soul.”
Kamela Jones, 42, joined Fitness Together after a four-year lapse in regular exercise due to health issues. Jones lost a lot of muscle strength during that time, so she wanted to find a supportive environment when she started up her workouts again. Over the past few months, Jones has experienced a steady gain in strength, increased muscle mass and tone. “They’re incredibly encouraging and seek the best way to motivate each individual,” Jones says of her trainers.
Nutrition is also a key component in the Fitness Together programs. “The approach is simple,” Hainlin says. “Eat balanced, eat healthy, eat often.” Looking toward the future, Hainlin plans to work on their nutrition program within the studio and hopes to include teaching clients how to cook at home, help with meal-planning and even grocery shopping.
But in the meantime, Hainlin and her team are going to keep doing what they’re doing—helping people get healthy. “I get super excited about being able to help people,” she says, “and watch those changes happen in their lives.”
