Nick Hebert, Meet Big Bird

Nick Hebert meets his favorite Sesame Street resident.

Because he has cerebral palsy and a form of autism, Tina Hebert’s son Nick has developed a strong attachment to Sesame Street ever since he was 5. Like a walking encyclopedia, he’s become a whiz on the show’s dates and episodes, and the Maple Grove mom says, “He’s an expert on all things Big Bird.”

Turns out heartfelt letters to Sesame Street producer Carol-Lynn Parente and Carroll Spinney, the voice and puppeteer behind Big Bird, are just the ticket to get to 123 Sesame Street in New York.

An invite to the show’s set for a live taping March 29 had Nick, 15, literally jumping for joy. And things were even more exciting once the big day came. “My favorite part of the experience was watching Nick’s expression when he met Carroll Spinney,” Hebert says. The episode taped that day airs this fall.
