World Taekwondo Academy Fights Bullying

World Taekwondo Academy leads a self-defense seminar to combat verbal abuse.

Back to school time is stressful for all involved—parents, students and teachers—and sadly there’s one common crisis that can’t be solved with an organized checklist: bullying.

Grandmaster Eui Lee of Maple Grove’s World Taekwondo Academy is starting the Stop Bullying in Our Community campaign this fall for kids and parents who want to learn self-defense to stop verbal abuse in schools. “I will be focusing on educating the community on the importance of knowing how and when to defend yourself,” Lee says. “Ninety-five percent of bullying that occurs in our schools today is verbal.”

The seminar will run through typical scenarios kids experience at school, how to recognize them and defend yourself using words first. The verbal lessons are a product of the ideologies of George Thompson, who founded an institute to research and develop training programs to help police officers de-escalate verbal and physical confrontations. Attendees will be taught word blocks, anger guarding and mushin verbal judo to combat bullying.

The seminar will be held at Maple Grove Community Center this fall (f/c specific date planned yet). minnepolis.thebullyexpert.com
