The Community Center's New Maple Maze

The Maple Maze is adding new features to the Community Center’s playground.

Much-loved by Maple Grove youths, the Maple Grove Community Center’s Maple Maze was starting to show the affection a bit too much, displaying normal wear and tear after 14 years and over 400,000 children sliding, climbing, jumping and crawling through the indoor playground.

Consequently, the Maze will be undergoing a series of nearly 30 renovations and additions that began September 6 and will wrap up around October 19. Lisa Jost, manager of the community center, says the renovations will increase safety while boosting up fun. “The modifications are intended to provide more activities for kids throughout the upper levels of the structure to keep their interest playing in the upper levels—with less running on the ground level where the younger toddlers tend to be,” Jost says.

Costing around $250,000, the project will add three new slides in the upper levels, a triple slide and 24 additional play features to crawl over, through and around. Children will love the challenge of the tree climb entrance to the triple slide, as well as the Fun Forest, pogo power and hover rings.

The expansions target children ages 12 and under, and hope to bring in 4,000 more children a year—with revenue from the project at an estimated $14,000 per year, Jost says. “I’m most excited about getting an update to the overall structure,” Jost says. “In particular, the new tree climb entrance to the triple slide should create some excitement for kids.”
