Curiosity may have killed the cat, but seems to have helped Chloe, a Boston Terrier/Pug mix, clinch first place in the ‘Pet’ category of Maple Grove Magazine’s 2011 Focus on Maple Grove photo contest. Chloe’s “aunt” Brianna Fortin, who says she loves taking picture of dogs when they are in their own element, took the photo.
Fortin says the family is always surrounded by dogs, so this past July, she took advantage of the situation and snapped the winning shot. “[Chloe], of all the pups, doesn’t like people as much as she likes other dogs,” Fortin explains. “So [putting a camera in her face] helps get her attention.”
Fortin, who was attempting to take a frame-worthy photo for Chloe’s “mom,” says she loved how the photo turned out, and was particularly pleased with the innocence in Chloe’s eyes and the off-center balance of the photo.
However, capturing Chloe’s innocence may have been easier than keeping her attention. But natural-born models typically come alive in front of a camera lens, which is enough to capture the pup’s attention for now. “They don’t quite understand what it is,” Fortin says. But if Chloe figures it out anytime soon and happens to lose interest, there’s a backup plan, according to Fortin: “Treats work, too.”
