Connections Academy Virtual Students Give Back

Online students serve in the real world.

MTS Minnesota Connections Academy is a tuition-free online public school that personalizes curriculum to meet the needs of each student K–12. With state-certified teachers, a high-quality program, a wide variety of elective courses and community experiences, this online education proves to be a smart alternative to the typical classroom setting.

Maple Grove’s Joel Miller and Rogers’ Theo Menon are both in their fourth year with MTS Minnesota Connections Academy. Menon is vice president of the school’s student council; Miller is a member of the National Honor Society and enjoys the social aspects his school provides.

This past fall, a group of students including Miller and Menon participated in some old-fashioned litter clean-up near St. Anthony Main and the Stone Arch Bridge. The morning was also spent removing invasive species and collecting seeds from the prairie habitat at Mills Ruins Park. “It was fun doing something for the city, serving the community and helping the environment with my friends and teachers,” Menon says. This project was one of the many public-service field trips the online school hosts for its students. minnesota.connectionsacademy.com
