The World Taekwondo Academy and the Randy Shaver Cancer Foundation kicked their way into history for a good cause. In August, students of the World Taekwondo Academy raised money for the charity close to Grandmaster E. Lee’s heart. Lee’s father, the founder of World Taekwondo Academy, passed away after a battle with cancer, so when Lee was looking for a local charity, the Randy Shaver Cancer Foundation seemed like a perfect fit.
But that’s not all. The Academy also broke a world record by having a team of 50 members do over 81,000 kicks in one hour. Randy Shaver even joined the group for the last kicks. According to Grandmaster Lee, they thought combining the two events “would be fun for some of the students and athletes to try it and [it helped make] more people to be part of the fundraiser.”
If raising money for a good cause and breaking a world record isn’t impressive enough, the World Taekwondo Academy also houses five members of the USA Taekwondo team who hope to be 2020 Olympic athletes.
