The Maple Grove History Museum has been in the works since the Maple Grove Historical Preservation Society was founded in the 1980s, but without an appropriate space to accommodate historical displays the museum remained a dream. So when the volunteer organization heard last fall they would be provided with a space in the Maple Grove Public Works Facility, they were ecstatic and so were many Maple Grove residents. More than 250 people attended the Maple Grove Museum’s July opening reception.
The museum includes several displays that will be changed periodically including smaller farming utensils from, as society member Caroline Schaefer puts it, “the less modern day,” a kitchen display from the 1930s, a school display that incorporates most of District 279 back to the days of the one-room school house, a camera and radio display and an old-time laundry display. The museum will be open on the second Sunday of each month; November and December displays will incorporate some holiday touches. The museum is free to attend and is located at 9030 Forestview Lane, on the south driveway.
