Once again, October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which means a time for heightened awareness about the importance of finding a cure. While the attention is much needed and greatly appreciated, Maple Grove resident and cancer survivor Steffany Fleming calls for the next step.
“The more advocates we have getting involved in local fundraisers, the more progress we are going to make towards working on a cure,” says Fleming, who was diagnosed in 2009. “We have great organizations doing awesome work right here in Minnesota.”
One of those organizations is Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an organization dedicated to saving lives and ending breast cancer forever. They support research and also provide practical assistance by providing free mammograms, clinical breast exams, diagnostic tests and treatment. “This month is all about making sure people know that they can make a difference,” Fleming says. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is really becoming such a well-known campaign.”
Over the years, Fleming has raised money for the organization and says many people at Susan G. Komen for the Cure “have become dear friends of hers.”
