While we’re a month or so away from closing the book on summer, let’s keep reading all year long. Thankfully, there are organizations and groups in this community that support reading and subsequent endeavors.
The District 279 Foundation strives to support local schools, and that includes hosting, along with Kidstop (ISD 279 school-age care program), the 9th annual Reading is Fun 5K Run/Walk. The event is set for August 10 at Elm Creek Park Reserve’s Acorn Area.
Proceeds from the chipped-timed race will be allocated to the media centers (libraries) in the district’s schools to purchase learning resources.
The day kicks off with a 1K Family/Mascot Fun Run/Walk. (Who doesn’t love to see a group of mascots race in the spirit of fun and community?)
Don’t wait! Registration closes August 4. Entrance fees are $20/individual youth 0-18 years; $35/individual adult 19 years and above); and $70/family (three or more reservations). Day of the event walk-up registration is available for $40/all ages.
