Take a Breath

New firefighters train on lifesaving gear.

Our newest group of firefighters has already weathered a lot. They’ve been through stiff competition (more than 60 applicants), interviews, physical ability tests, background checks, psychological screening, physical and drug testing, orientation sessions, and now, five months of Fire Academy. Here, our favorite new recruits, Justin Siemieniewski and Stephanie Firestone, practice buddy breathing with SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) gear.

Maple Grove firefighters responded to from 150 to 220 calls per station over the past year, with each station receiving 12 to 20 calls per month, so our newest firefighters are training diligently to join in serving the community need. Catch up on their ongoing training in the September issue.
