Temporary Beauty at Arbor Lakes Chalkfest

Maple Grove streets become a hotbed of creation by chalk artists from across the country.

During the second weekend in June, Maple Grove sidewalks play canvas to chalk art by professionals, amateurs and art enthusiasts from across the world. Chalkfest at Arbor Lakes is a free street art festival that includes food, entertainment and fun for the entire family.

The main event is located on Main Street, both days. At The Shoppes and the Fountains at Arbor Lakes you’ll find custom-created, pre-event murals by artist-in-residence, Shawn McCann and Jincy Babu and Limnesh Augustine, Indian nationals visiting from Bahrain.

Professional artists will be chalking during the entire festival period, rain or shine; student and amateur artists are welcome to join in at any time. Chalk will be available and volunteers will provide guidance and helpful tips for creating a masterful artwork.

The chalking begins on June 6 during Camp Arbor. Small 3D chalked doors will be hidden throughout The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes.

Drop by more than once to watch the progression of artists’ creations, and vote for your favorite professional artist to win the People’s Choice Award. Stay until the end for the “ceremony,” when city water workers hose the masterpieces down the nearest storm drain.
