The District 279 Foundation is off to the races to ensure kids have the proper reading materials in their schools’ media centers. The first-ever Reading is Fun 5K Run/Walk, held at the Elm Creek Park Reserve Acorn Area on September 24, will have a series of races to fit different interests and experience levels. The 1K family run/walk starts at 11 a.m., the 5K run starts at 11:20 a.m. and the 5K walk starts at 11: 50 a.m. Registration is at 10 a.m. All those registering on or before August 26 will receive a free T-shirt. An awards ceremony will take place in the refreshments area following the race. Kids up to age 18 pay $7, adults 19 and up pay $22 and there’s a family household rate of $49.
