Providing kids with a quality education on a day-to-day basis is enough of a reward in itself for most schools. But getting validated with an official accreditation certainly doesn’t hurt. The Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association (MNSAA) recently accredited Maple Grove’s Cedarcrest Academy for the eligibility period of 2011 to 2018.
A little over a month after the pre-K-8 school was given the right to identify itself as a private catholic school within the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, Cedarcrest was accredited by MNSAA based on its compliance with a set of rigorous standards which identify essential personnel, instruction, facility, curriculum, governance and marketing policies and practices that are considered necessary for an effective school.
A federally-and-state sanctioned nonprofit association, MNSAA is governed by a member-elected board of directors that bases its accreditation on a school’s evaluation through a self-study process. Accreditation is a voluntary method of quality assurance with a goal to evaluate, validate and improve each school. The accreditation process includes the creation of a strategic plan, and achieving accreditation often depends on how a particular school defines and accomplishes its mission. Cedarcrest, founded in 1997, is now one of more than 170 of MNSAA’s schools.
