CROSS Services Hosts 11th Empty Bowls Event

CROSS Services finds success for more than a decade with local Empty Bowls event.
Beautiful artisan crafted bowls are available at this year’s event.

“There are a lot of hurting people. How can we raise some funds?” thought CROSS Services board member Pam Hanson 11 years ago. Hanson has since become the chairperson for a very successful annual gathering called Empty Bowls. The program actually began in 1990 as an international event for people to come together to fight hunger, and has since found its way into many communities worldwide. For the sake of all those local people who were hurting—for whom Hanson had a heart—the event has become a staple in the Maple Grove area.

Empty Bowls takes place during the Minnesota Food Share March Campaign. Food and beverages will be served by many local restaurants and vendors. Music and children’s activities will pepper the event as participants view unique handmade bowls, crafted by local artisans, that are available for purchase. Proceeds support the CROSS Food Shelf and help provide for local families in need. “It’s a celebrated, fun event for every age; everyone’s invited,” Hanson says.
