Deck Your Halls

Find joy in making your own holiday decor.

Between shopping for gifts and cooking food for the family, decorating the house for the holidays may seem impossible in such a short span of time. But with a little instruction and lots of materials, anyone can create personal decorations for their home.

Nancy Whitelaw, owner of a commercial holiday decor business, brings leftover, unused Christmas decorations and materials to Mistletoe & Memories Holiday Decor Seminar Christmas at the Maple Grove Arts Center. Over the past 10 years she’s made materials available to anyone looking to make their own decorations. All materials are provided, including holiday ribbon, natural items like pinecones and birch logs, and many other decor items.

“It’s just a nice little seminar where people can test their creative abilities. I truly have never ever seen somebody make a bad product,” Whitelaw says.

Whitelaw spends more time than most designing holiday decoration layouts for spaces much larger than one house, but there’s no place like home during the holiday season.

“I do like decorating in my home or watching people decorate for their home because it’s far more personal than a public space,” she says.
