Johann Sebastian Bach’s call to joy and celebration will be presented entirely by the Bach Society of Minnesota with baroque orchestra, chorus, and soloists. BSM’s annual holiday offering (a favorite with Minnesota audiences) will be led by Artistic Director Matthias Maute featuring soprano Sarah Brailey, alto Clara Osowski, tenor Nicholas Chalmers, and bass Jonathan Ten Brink. Together the acclaimed singers and musicians of the Bach Society announce the Holidays as Bach would have done in his own time.
Cantatas I, V, and VI from the 1734 work will be performed bringing the story of Christmas alive in a narrative arc that begins with the miracle of birth, continues to the kindness of strangers, and victory over powerful villains. Also on the program is a Christmas work BWV 91 “Gelobet seist du, Jesu Christ” written by Bach 10 years before the Oratorio. With jubilant trumpets and drums to the chorus of angels joyously singing, these performances add splendor to the festivities. Concert at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sunday, December 8 at 3 pm. For tickets and info, please visit bachsocietymn.org
