After years of hard work and sacrifice, Maple Grove resident Zachery Budde is gaining international recognition in the art of Taekwondo.

 

Al Schuck was capturing images of a neighbor’s kids on the bridge that spans the narrow passage connecting Eagle Lake and Pike Lake in Maple Grove, when something quietly unexpected happened. “We were in between shots with the children and I saw kayaks coming from Pike Lake.

 

If you’re already in summer mode, you’ve no doubt hit a few outdoor happy hours lately, along with some quick outdoor lunches and leisurely dinners. But don’t overlook the morning meal as a prime opportunity to enjoy the open air.

 

About once a month for the past four years, a diverse group of Maple Grove residents comes together at Champp’s Americana for breakfast and an opportunity to hear a varying viewpoint.

 

When Sunday Burquest, a self-admitted DIY devotee, got the itch to do some redecorating in her home, she started scouring Goodwills, thrift shops, and garage sales; every place she could find that would afford her nice pieces of furniture and décor accoutrements that just needed a bit of love and

 

Maple Grove resident and ballerina Katie Johnson knew she was destined for the stage at just four years old.

“I used to beg my parents to take ‘dancing lessons class’ and they enrolled me in Butterfield Dance Studio,” she says.

 

Last year, Maple Grove resident Justin Jacobs was one of five experienced educators chosen from 125 applicants to participate in the St. Thomas Teaching Fellowship.

Beacon Academy raised over $3,200 in coins during a week-long effort to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

 

“I wanted to do something a little different,” says Kyle Burkholder of the study abroad program that changed his life. Burkholder went to Kenya in 2010, originally because of the program’s focus on development─something he was especially interested in.

 

When Geena, a 10-month-old Black Labrador, enters the Maple Grove Community Center with her puppy raiser, Kolleen Herr, heads turn, children smile and people nod. Her silky fur and puppy visage make it impossible for kids not to run up and pet her.

 

Earlier this year, as Abby Jimenez and her family were getting settled into their new Champlin home following a move from California, Jimenez engaged in a popular mid-winter Minnesota hobby: she baked.
