Celebrate the namesake of our community and the perfect pancake topping as you learn about the process of producing maple syrup. Eastman Nature Center naturalists and volunteers demonstrate centuries-old harvesting methods and allow you to test your skills at turning a drill bit to start a tap and see the sap flow. Watch as the hot cauldron turns sap into syrup and indulge in a sample of the previous years’ production. “We live in one of the only places in the world where you can do this,” explains naturalist Brandon Baker. “It’s amazing that people discovered [the process] and that we can go out and create this special product.” Additionally, there will be an informational presentation and a display of hand-made tools used by early sap harvesters. This event is for all ages and no registration is required—drop-ins are welcome.
