If you’re looking for creative inspiration, 100 quilts of all shapes and sizes made by members of the Maple Grove Quilters will be displayed during a two-day event this month at the Maple Grove Community Center. Also, catch the Guild Challenge Exhibit where members receive a fat quarter of selected fabric and make something quilted from it. At the show, guests vote for their favorite quilt in each exhibit, and ribbons are awarded.
The event also features a raffle quilt. The queen-size prize, called “Bear Hollow,” was designed by Ann Seely and published in the October 1994 Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine. Seely incorporated traditional blocks that are some of the most beloved patterns in quilt making. The flying geese, log cabin, pine tree and bear’s paw blocks have been part of quilt-making history for nearly a century.
The quilt blocks and appliqued borders were pieced by the members of Maple Grove Quilters and the machine quilting was completed by group member, Tammy Hammerstad.
Want to leave with more than a good feeling? Throughout the year, members sew quilted items for a boutique where guests can purchase tote bags, wall hangings, potholders, tissue covers, hand-painted thimbles, pillowcases, zipper bags, microwave bowls, table runners, pillows and purses.
