Steven Elbert started wearing his seatbelt in the ’70s, far before it became second nature for most of the driving world. During high school, he worked in the morgue of a local hospital. He saw who survived car crashes and who did not.

 

When Kathleen and Rich Pomerleau moved to their Maple Grove home 38 years ago, their backyard was a blank slate.

 

Not so long ago, Maple Grove’s youngsters were well acquainted with rakes, hoes and other garden implements. As neighborhoods have replaced farmsteads and scheduled sports and activities have replaced chores, parents may wonder how to help kids feel a connection to the garden.

 

Maple Grove High School (MGHS) does not have a theater program. There’s no theater teacher or theater classes.

 

An emerald ash borer recently came to town and realized how good we have it here in the Northwest quadrant of the Twin Cities. Soon he called his buddies to join him for a feast until the food was gone.

 

Mary Nedry was just 13 years old when a life-long passion was born. It all began with her Great Aunt Darlene. First it was a scarf and then it grew into blankets, until working with yarn led to many a State Fair ribbon and a family bond that she’s passing down to her grandkids.

 

The 23rd annual Arts in Harmony 2018 International Show features selected works from 13 different mediums including acrylic, ceramic, fiber, glass, oil, pastels, prints, photography, sculpture and watercolor works.
 

 

Area artist Dianne Mehta loves to work with polymer clay to create individual masterpieces. Nearly 17 years ago she discovered a well-known polymer clay artist at the Uptown Art Fair. She headed straight to the craft store to obtain supplies and a book to guide her into making her first project.

 

Many a father and daughter in and around Maple Grove and Osseo have carved out a tradition of attending the annual Once Upon a Time Dance. Heading into its 11th year, the event has seen exponential growth.

 

T-ball is a great introduction to baseball which focuses on basic skills and teamwork, but most of all on having fun. Kids have the chance to field the ball, make plays and hit balls either from a tee stand or from a coach’s pitch.

 

Influenced by contemporary fashion and Midwestern culture, headwear designer and Maple Grove resident Desmond Stubblefield created Triple Crown in May of 2017.
