“I still find it amazing how much wildlife you can find within the city, and you don’t need to travel far to find things that many people otherwise miss,” photographer Rod Smoliak says. “It’s always a thrill to find a nest or a den that is currently occupied. Photographing wildlife allows you the opportunity to get out in nature, and you never know what you might find.”

Kayaking on Fish Lake, taken with an iPhone 10, placed third in the Activities & Events category of our annual Focus on Maple Grove photo contest.
“We love to go to Fish Lake. That day, we decided to go out kayaking for a relaxing day in the sun,” Sarah Cupryna says, who notes the day’s weather was ideal. “It was a warm summer day. [The] sun was shining, and [the] water was glistening.” Read more about Water Works
