For the 5th year, the Maple Grove Arts Center hosts a show consisting completely of art that is black and white (and shades of gray). Featured art includes everything from paintings and photographs to beading and quilts. Members and non-members are invited to enjoy live music and food at the exhibit’s opening.
“Spur” is part of a series by Matthew Scherfenberg cleverly named “nudes your grandmother would approve of.” His photography has won several awards over the years. “I had never thought of myself as any kind of artist,” Scherfenberg says. “I’ve always been very technical, and felt I would be some kind of scientist. Late in high school, I found the theater, and it was my first art. When I went to North Hennepin Community College in the fall of ’89, my interest in the theater exploded. I had always loved photography since I got my first real camera when I was 11, and the photo lab was only 40 feet from the theater.”
This year’s exhibit features some particularly interesting and edgy photography, drawings and sculpture. The Fine Art Boutique will also be open during the celebration, offering unique handmade gifts and art.
