William Gibson’s The Miracle Worker, directed by Patrick Coyle, arrives at the Yellow Tree Theatre this month. This production is based on the true story of Helen Keller and her teacher, Annie Sullivan.

After Keller’s parents reached out to the Perkins Institute in a plea for help in order to keep their daughter out of an institution, young and inexperienced Sullivan arrives to help break through Keller’s world of silence by teaching her how to communicate with the world around her. Keller’s continuous fight for belonging and acceptance promises to make any playgoer believe in miracles.

The Yellow Tree Theatre was founded in 2008 by Jason Peterson and Jessica Lind Peterson after recognizing a need for theater arts in the Osseo and Maple Grove area. In doing so, theater performances are more accessible to the Minneapolis northwest suburbs, and the Petersons try to maintain a welcoming atmosphere, bringing people of all ages and interest levels together under one roof.

In addition to providing arts to the community, the theater also strives to challenge, inspire and support artists and their efforts.
