A photograph offers a unique opportunity to capture activities and places you want to remember but also people and things you want to make sure you never forget. Molly Starkey shares some insight about her winning image.

What’s the story behind this shot? This is a picture of my middle son, Finn, who was 7 at the time and our black lab, Bailey. This was our last full day with Bailey. We had to put her to sleep the next morning. Finn had a very special bond with Bailey, and it makes me so happy that I was able to capture this moment on camera.

How many images do you take each month?
Depends on how busy we are. When the boys were younger, I used to take a lot more pictures than I do now. I would say I take about 100 pictures a month [non-iPhone photos].

Where would we find your camera on a regular basis?
In my laundry room.

Last words?
This picture was just in our back yard. Some of my best photos have come from the most sporadic moments. Always keep the camera charged!

This photo was taken with a Nikon D5000 and won First place in the Pets category of the 2017 Focus on Maple Grove photo contest.
