Kristin Jones puts a lot of thought, effort and love into her photos. Whether shooting a wedding, senior picture or Maple Grove Senior High theater production, Jones ponders possible pictures and uses the environment to her advantage. On one special evening she captured a beautiful, sentimental photo for this newly married couple in wedding dress and Air Force uniform. “Once the family told me the reception was going to be at Central Park I started thinking about how we could get a picture using the fountain to give them a memorable image,” she says.
However, Jones didn’t just point and shoot. She collaborated with the setting sun, waiting a few minutes after it had gone to bed before asking the couple to step outside. Then, she did a little something extra to get the perfect look. “I had two friends hold the flashes behind the fountain on either side of the couple just outside the frame,” she explains. “Lighting the water from behind … frames this couple so beautifully.”
Jones loves shooting relationships between people and capturing emotion; enhancing what she has in front of her; making an amazing moment into a fantastic moment. “I love this image because it makes the night seem so magical for a magical time in their lives,” she says.
Kristin Jones placed first in the People & Places category of the 2017 Focus on Maple Grove photo contest with this image captured at Central Park of Maple Grove, entitled Night of Love.
