The owners of the Maple Grove Travel Leaders agency, Sandy Lovick and her son Dave Lovick, were recently given the “Associate of the Year” award by the Travel Leaders Network. Sandy has been interested in travel since backpacking in Europe at age 18. Dave began at Travel Leaders delivering airline tickets in high school and believes, “The whole travel business gets in your blood.”

Sandy Lovick has worked in the travel industry since 1979. When the opportunity to start her own business arose in 1984, she knew her idea for an agency would work because most people love to dream about travel and she loves to make dreams into reality. To young entrepreneurs, she says, “You have to have a passion for whatever business you start.”
Tips for Summer Travel:
- Start early: Tours fill quickly and if you wait until the last minute, there often is not space left.
- Check locations: Book a hotel near your destination to save travel time and use public transportation when available.
- Find the “hidden gems”: Look for unique places to visit near your destination. Sometimes lesser-known small towns have amazing attractions.
- Pack smart: Remember the basics but don’t forget items like books or gum.
