Bollywood Dancing in Maple Grove

Have fun with the newest of dance forms to hit town.

If you are cooped up inside, here is your chance to kick off your slippers and get a great cardio workout with Bollywood Dancing. Bollywood is a term derived from Bombay (the city now called Mumbai) and Hollywood (the center of the United States film industry). At the heart of many Indian musical films is a dance style modeled on classical Indian dance, which came from northern Indian courtesans and folk dancers. In modern Bollywood films, these historic dance styles blend with Western dance. Sometimes the dance numbers also have an Arabic or Latino influence.

As in the historical forms, Bollywood dancing often expresses the meaning of the music through the movements of the body. The Hindu Temple of Minnesota hosts Bollywood dancing every Friday night as a service to the community and to keep the dance growing.
