A Father’s Legacy

Maple Grove resident Adja Ann appointed to Hennepin County Library Board.

Growing up in Liberia, Adja Kumba Kaba Ann developed a lifelong passion for literature in a region where books were few and far between. “I was lucky that my father introduced me to reading at a very young age,” Ann says of her father, a college professor who read to her. “I relied on my father to bring books home from his travels and eventually I discovered the library at the US Embassy in Monrovia.”

A Maple Grove resident for 15 years, Ann visits the Maple Grove library on a weekly basis with her sons and was recently appointed to the Hennepin County Library Board by the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners. “One of my goals on the board is to speak to the growing diversity of our community in Maple Grove,” Ann says.

Since starting on the board in early March, Ann’s first project has involved the planning of a new Hennepin County Library in Brooklyn Park scheduled to open in 2016.
