Each year, the West Suburban Fire Academy in Maple Grove provides firefighter training to volunteers who are then certified in fewer than six months. After another successful term, the time for new participants to apply is right around the corner. “There are people that come to us that may not have any background in fire or rescue,” says deputy fire chief Tim Bush.
After graduation from the academy, volunteers are able to participate in more advanced rescue training like truck driving and handling the water pump. “We take someone with zero experience in emergency services and, within two years, we have them driving million dollar trucks,” Bush says.
Applications for the next round of training begin next month at the website here.
