Readers took the photos. Readers submitted the photos. So it’s only appropriate that readers get to vote for their favorite photos in the second annual Southwest Metro photo contest.

View the lineup of photos here, and vote for as many photos as you’d like once every day through September 30. The Reader’s Choice winner, given to the photo with the most votes, will get a gift certificate to a local shop or restaurant.

The District 279 Foundation is off to the races to ensure kids have the proper reading materials in their schools’ media centers. The first-ever Reading is Fun 5K Run/Walk, held at the Elm Creek Park Reserve Acorn Area on September 24, will have a series of races to fit different interests and experience levels. The 1K family run/walk starts at 11 a.m., the 5K run starts at 11:20 a.m. and the 5K walk starts at 11: 50 a.m. Registration is at 10 a.m. All those registering on or before August 26 will receive a free T-shirt.

Maple Grove Magazine’s second annual Focus on Maple Grove Photo Contest gives all you photo enthusiasts—whether you consider yourself a pro, amateur, hobbyist or beginner —a chance to display your work in our pages.

The Maple Grove Farmers Market, organized by the City of Maple Grove in 2004 and stationed outside of the Maple Grove Community Center (12951 Weaver Lake Rd.), needs little introduction. With over 50 vendors and a slew of dedicated shoppers in attendance every Thursday in the summer months through Oct. 20, it’s easy to see why it was rated as one of the Best Farmers Markets in the Twin Cities by CBS.
