Mindy Gallagher has had a lifelong passion for taking photographs. “In high school, I took every photo class I could get my hands on,” she says. “My grandpa gave me his old film camera; it was a total amateur obsession with photography.” A Maple Grove resident of four years, Gallagher considers Weaver Lake a prime location for outdoor shots. She and her family enjoy running, walking, biking and nature in their own neighborhood.
Her photo, “Summer Sisters,” won third place in the People and Families category of our 2015 Focus on Maple Grove photo contest. The photo features her daughters, Laeney and Fiona, ages 9 and 7. “It was completely empty, except for me and my daughters,” Gallagher explains. “They wanted to sit on the lifeguard chair and, since no one was around, I hoisted them up.” She snapped the moment with her iPhone’s camera. Gallagher points out that, despite her daughters’ typical sisterly bickering, it’s in photos like this one that she realizes just how close and connected they truly are.
“Life happens so fast, and I love having a piece of history that I’ve captured through my own personal viewfinder,” she says.
We’ll accept submissions for our 2016 photo contest later this summer.
